1. The Acute Phase
• The doctor's first objective is to return the spine to its normal position and restore body balance. This reactivates the bodys self-healing ability and aids in pain reduction. During the initial stabilization period, a number of corrections may be necessary. Once the spine is in a stable position or holding, many patients may maintain their corrections for weeks, months, or even years. Recovery will continue as long as the correction is maintained. Patients who allow adequate time for the correction and stabilization of the spine will see the best long-term results.
2. Body Stabilization and the Healing Phase
• Most patients see results quickly. However, the first six weeks after the initial correction are generally considered the recovery and healing phase. During this period, body balance is monitored to insure the correction is maintained and healing continues.
3. Health Maintenance Phase
• During the health maintenance phase, the body begins to return to optimum health. Patients begin learning new and better ways to care for themselves, which aids in maintaining the stability of the spinal correction. Dr. Tim uses both traditional adjusting techniques as well as state-of-the-art instruments that involve literally no twisting or popping of the spine. These techniques are tried and true, totally safe, and very effective.
Massage TherapyThe Truth About Massage. Massage therapy uses a variety of methods to give a positive response on the human body, mind and spirit. After all, rubbing aching muscles is natural and instinctive! Massage is a natural approach to wellness that has existed and flourished since ancient times Massage improves circulation, joint range of motion, and flexibility. It reduces many common problems such as stress, muscle tightness, aches and pains, even anxiety and depression. How does Massage Therapy Work? Our Masseuse will use light oil or lotion on the skin and begin the massage. A full body massage usually entails working from one end of the body to the other. Be sure to let your masseuse know if you are uncomfortable with the pressure, technique, oil, music, etc. Your feedback allows you to have the best experience possible. During your massage the top sheet will be removed from isolated areas that are being worked on while the rest of your body is kept discreetly covered and warm. Will massage therapy hurt? Massage therapy should be comfortable and not hurt. Occasionally there is mild aching when the massage therapist applies pressure over knots and other areas of muscle tension. If the pressure is too strong for you, let the masseuse know. How will I feel after a massage? Most people feel calm and relaxed after a massage treatment. Occasionally, people experience mild temporary aching for a day or so. Drinking extra water the day before, the day of, and the day after your massage will prepare your bodies tissue to release toxins and recover quickly. Why do people utilize massage therapy? •Back pain •Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and tendonitis •Stress relief and stress- related conditions •Headaches and migraines •Muscle and related conditions such as spasms, strains, and sprains •Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome •Post-injury and post surgical rehabilitation Massage therapy relieves stress. It helps the bodys stress response by lowering levels of stress hormones such as cortisol. Massage therapy also appears to enhance the immune system.
Therapeutic Exercise
Dr. Tim commonly prescribes specific strengthening exercises for our patients with back, neck, and extremity problems. These exercises can decrease pain, prevent muscle deterioration, promote joint health, increase strength, stability, and range of motion, and protect against new or recurring injuries. Dr. Tim will show you how to do the exercises and supervise you until you are comfortable doing them on your own. It's important to keep up with your exercises as prescribed (similarly to drug prescriptions). Studies show that individuals who follow their exercise instructions heal faster than those who do not.
